Managing Director, UV measurement and standardisation
Dr Mark Paravia
Dr.-Ing. Mark Paravia is Managing Director of Opsytec Dr. Gröbel GmbH in Ettlingen and heads the accredited calibration laboratory. Together with Dr Stefan Pieke he founded Opsytec GmbH in 2008 for development services and contract measurements in optical technologies; in 2013 it merged with Dr. Gröbel UV-Elektronik to form today’s Opsytec Dr. Gröbel GmbH.
Areas of expertise
His focus today is optical radiation measurement: the calibration of UV measuring instruments, occupational safety and spectral action functions. To this he adds many years of experience in the research and development of UV measurement technologies.
Background
Dr Paravia carried out research on pulsed xenon excimer discharges at the Light Technology Institute of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) before moving into optical radiation measurement and into management.
Doctorate
His doctoral thesis was written at the Light Technology Institute of KIT and deals with the efficient operation of xenon excimer discharges at high power density: Effizienter Betrieb von Xenon-Excimer-Entladungen bei hoher Leistungsdichte, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, 2010 (full text, DOI 10.5445/KSP/1000016885).
Work in standardisation
Dr Paravia is actively involved in standardisation. He is deputy chair of the DIN standards committee FNL 7 “Optical radiation” and a member of the DVGW project group on UV disinfection. At DIN he chaired the working group on UV-C secondary air devices, from which DIN/TS 67506 emerged.
Publications
Technical papers and talks are listed on the publications page. His ORCID iD is 0009-0007-2394-7378.
